Our Verdict (Best For)
The SimPure Y7P-BW is a bit of a mixed bag. Although the touch screen can be finicky, usability is generally solid with a slim design. Also, the system wastes very little water and achieved decent results in our lab testing for contaminant reduction. The filtered water tasted and smelled great, too. Still, the biggest strike against the SimPure was the styrene that appeared post-filtration at levels above the strictest OEHHA health guideline. Furthermore, despite SimPure’s testing against NSF and other standards for 17 contaminants, the Y7P-BW doesn’t hold any actual NSF certifications. Bottom line: There are better countertop ROs out there.
The SimPure Y7P-BW is a countertop reverse osmosis system that doesn’t require a plumbing connection. It’s designed for use as a drinking water filter and can purify both tap water and properly disinfected well water.
As usual, we’ve tested the system with our own hands:
- Hands-on experience: We installed/assembled, used, and maintained it.
- Filtration effectiveness: We sent an unfiltered and a filtered tap water sample to a professional lab for analysis in order to determine real-life contaminant reduction capabilities. Plus, we checked for NSF certifications and other test data.
- More testing: We performed a taste & odor test, a filtration speed test, and a wastewater test.
- All other product aspects: We considered initial + long-term cost, product warranties, additional features, frequent customer complaints, etc.

What We Like Most
- Achieved good results in our lab testing for contaminant reduction.
- Filtered water tasted and smelled perfect.
- Third-party tested for contaminant reduction (but not all performed for full filter lifespan and we miss most organics).
- Easy to set up, use, and maintain, with continuous dispensing or set amounts, and a slim design, and one-touch flushing.
- Produced very little wastewater in our test.
- Filter life indicator + water shortage and change reminders.
- Replacement filters are relatively cheap.
- 2-year warranty with registration (1 year without).
What We Don’t Like
- Styrene appeared in filtered water above the strictest health guidelines for cancer risk.
- No actual NSF certifications for contaminant reduction.
- Touch screen is not always responsive, and the max fill line is hard to read.
- 3rd-party customers complained about units that stopped working after a couple of months and unsatisfactory filtration results.

/5.00Remember that our before vs after lab comparison is not an exact science. It’s informational and subject to variability, inaccuracies, and interferences caused by natural fluctuations in water quality, accidental contamination, human error, instrumentation issues, and more. Furthermore, our lab-testing is limited to those contaminants present in our water supplies and at their respective concentrations. As such, it can only give us a general idea for how effective a certain water treatment product might be.
