Our Verdict (Best For)
The Waterdrop CTF-01 produced clean-tasting water but poor lab results, potentially leaching methylene chloride and chloromethane (below strict guidelines). It only has 2 NSF/ANSI-certified contaminants and no third-party testing. Usability is solid: setup is easy with 4 included adapters (fits standard taps only). Filter replacements are simple, though no indicator light. Dispensing is splash-free, yielding 1 cup in a very fast ~4.25 sec (suitable for most users). The valve easily switches between filtered/unfiltered water. No leaks but it drips from faucet when moved and after dispensing. The Waterdrop CTF-01 is a countertop water filter that attaches directly to your kitchen faucet. It’s designed for use as a drinking water filter and can purify both tap water and properly disinfected well water (pre-treatment may be required).
As usual, we’ve tested the system with our own hands:
- Hands-on experience: We assembled, primed, used, and maintained it.

Full Analysis of the Waterdrop CTF-01
Filtration: /5.00
The Waterdrop CTF-01 scored 1.81/5.00 for filtration. How? Most importantly, it achieved poor results in our 2024 lab testing, though the filtered water had a clean taste and no odor. Plus, the system has only 2 NSF/ANSI certifications for contaminant reduction (chlorine and taste/odor) and no additional third-party testing.
1. Lab Results: /5.00
Remember that our before vs after lab comparison is not an exact science. It’s informational and subject to variability, inaccuracies, and interferences caused by natural fluctuations in water quality, accidental contamination, human error, instrumentation issues, and more. Furthermore, our lab testing is limited to those contaminants present in our water supplies and at their respective concentrations, which is why the results may contradict third-party test data. As such, our lab testing can only give us a general idea for how effective a certain water treatment product might be.
In our lab test comparing an unfiltered and a filtered tap water sample, the Waterdrop CTF-01 could remove 7 undesirable impurities and contaminants to below the minimum detection level (so essentially to 100%): chlorine, bromodichloromethane, dibromochloromethane, chloroform, copper, nitrate, and uranium.
The following substances remained in our water (note: in our view, most concentration increases are generally due to leaching, although natural fluctuations cannot be ruled out):
- Barium wasn’t reduced at all.
- Boron wasn’t reduced at all.
- Zinc increased by 100%. That said, it was already at the lowest detectable level (0.01 ppm) in the unfiltered water sample, and because the lab reported zinc only in 0.01 ppm increments, this percentage change reflects a minimal absolute difference. Also, zinc is merely an aesthetic impurity which only becomes relevant (e.g., impacting water taste) at a higher level than detected in our sample, which at 0.02 ppm was 250x lower than the strictest zinc guideline we could find (5.0 ppm, EPA secondary standards). One possible explanation is the use of KDF media (a copper-zinc mix), which might have released trace zinc.
- Lithium wasn’t reduced at all.
- Strontium increased by 7%. At 0.47 ppm, it was 3.19x lower than the strictest strontium health guideline we could find (1.5 ppm, EWG). Associated effects above that guideline include harm to bones.
- Fluoride decreased by 10%. That said, our 2024 fluoride test method is known to be susceptible to alkalinity interference, with higher alkalinity producing artificially elevated fluoride readings. Because the filtered water showed increased alkalinity, this may have influenced our fluoride results.
Aside from contaminant reduction, we found the following substances in our filtered water that were not present in the unfiltered water:
- Aluminum – At 0.01 ppm, it was 60x lower than the strictest aluminum health guideline we could find (0.6 ppm, California OEHHA), established to prevent neuro- and immunotoxic effects.
- Manganese – At 0.01 ppm, it was 2x lower than the California OEHHA notification level of 0.02 ppm, the strictest manganese benchmark we could find. That said, manganese is an essential dietary element for humans, and the notification level is very conservative because it’s based primarily on limited animal data and the application of large safety/uncertainty factors to protect bottle-fed infants from neurotoxicological effects.
- Methylene chloride – At 2.62 ppb, it was 1.53x lower than the strictest methylene chloride health guideline we could find (4 ppb, California OEHHA). Associated effects above that guideline include an increased risk of cancer.
- Chloromethane – At 0.90 ppb, it was 2.99x lower than the strictest chloromethane health guideline we could find (2.69 ppb, EWG). The associated effect above that guideline is an increased risk of cancer.
- Trichlorofluoromethane – At 0.72 ppb, it was 1,805.56x lower than the strictest trichlorofluoromethane health guideline we could find (1,300 ppb, California OEHHA). Associated effects above that guideline include liver toxicity.

2. NSF/ANSI Certifications and Other Test Data
The Waterdrop CTF-01 is certified for the reduction of 2 contaminants (chlorine and taste/odor) by the IAPMO against NSF/ANSI standard 42. It lacks additional third-party testing for contaminant removal.
Though the system is advertised to have a 1.6 gpm flow rate, it was tested at 1.0 gpm for its NSF/ANSI 42 certifications. Based on our speed test results discussed below, it reached a maximum of ~1.46 gpm when installed on our faucet. Depending on your faucet and water pressure, if used at full flow the unit may not achieve the same level of chlorine reduction or taste/odor improvement as it did during certification testing.
3. Filtration Process
The Waterdrop CTF-01 filter cartridge has the following components:
- Non-woven fabric and a PP membrane perform particle filtration (mechanical filtration), acting like a sieve to trap solid, undissolved impurities like sand, rust, and dirt.
- Activated carbon removes things like bad tastes and odors, chlorine/chloramine, disinfection byproducts and other organics, as well as certain metals. In addition, the block structure provides fine mechanical filtration due to its smaller pore size compared to granular carbon.
- KDF media is a copper-zinc blend which also removes chlorine and certain water-soluble heavy metals (e.g., lead, mercury, and iron) while inhibiting microbial growth.
- Minerals: 4 types of minerals, including calcium, magnesium and potassium, are added, which may raise the pH and boost the water’s flavor.
4. Taste and Odor Test
In our test, the filtered water was odorless and had a perfectly clean taste.

The Waterdrop CTF-01 achieved a usability score of 4.30/5.00, based on its performance in the following categories:

1. Initial Setup & Filter Priming: /1.50
Assembling the Waterdrop CTF-01 is easy. The instruction booklet provides clear, illustrated directions for each step.
Like any faucet-connect water filter, this unit is only compatible with standard-sized faucets – it is not designed to be used with pull-down or spray-style models, for example. The system includes four faucet adapters to facilitate installation.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the setup procedure:
- Remove aerator from kitchen faucet.
- If needed, install one of the 4 included adapters onto faucet using a coin.
- Screw the outlet valve onto the faucet or adapter as applicable. The washer should be used between the faucet and the system.
- Tighten filter housing using the provided wrench.
- Place unit in desired location. Switch valve lever to horizontal position and turn on water (no higher than 100˚F), flushing system for 3-5 minutes.
- Check for leaks; tighten nut on the valve or use the provided Teflon tape on connections as needed.
- After water runs clear, your system is ready to use.




2. Day-to-Day Use: /2.50
2.1 Speed & Water Capacity: /2.50
The Waterdrop CTF-01 is suited for daily use and offers very fast dispensing speed. The system filtered and dispensed 1 cup in ~4.25 sec and 4 cups in ~10.25 sec in our filtration speed tests. That means it filters fast enough to meet the daily water needs of the average-sized US households (~2.55-3.15 people), including 8-10 cup/hour thirst bursts.
As mentioned previously, the system is advertised to have a 1.6 gpm flow rate, though it was tested at 1.0 gpm for its NSF/ANSI 42 certifications. Based on the above speed test results, it reached a maximum of ~1.46 gpm when installed on our faucet.

2.2 Dispensing: /0.00
Dispensing water is very fast and splash-free. The metal lever on the outlet valve is simple to use, permitting easy switching between filtered and unfiltered water. Plus, the unit feels sturdy and stable on the counter, with the rubber-gripped bottom providing extra traction.
It produces a steady, brisk stream of water, though there’s a ramp up and a ramp down to the pour, with the latter being particularly lengthy (plan to leave enough room in your glass to catch the runoff).
We did not experience leaks from any of the connections, but we did notice a few drips after dispensing was finished.
Most standard 40-oz bottles should fit under the spout without tilting, as its height is 11.8″ from the base. However, you can’t fit a standard 2-quart carafe under the spout, as it’s not high enough.


2.3 Refilling & Size: /0.00
Refills are not needed with the Waterdrop CTF-01, as it does not utilize a feed tank. Instead, it processes water in real time as it is dispensed from the tap.
Measuring 7.6″x13.15″x3.5″ (WxHxD), it fits under most kitchen cabinets (18″ clearance), and at 5.1 lbs with a wet filter installed, its weight is about average for the faucet-connect water filters that we tested.
The Waterdrop CTF-01’s very compact size saves space on your counter, though the exposed tubing can still get in the way. More specifically, the unit takes up only ~26.60 in2 (~0.18 ft2) of room next to your sink.

2.4 Other: /0.00
We noticed the faucet dripped when moving the unit around on our counter. Plus, it’s hard to find a convenient place for this system, as the tubes can get in the way of normal sink use.
3. Filter Replacements: /1.00
Filter replacements are very simple. The filter is easily accessible, though you must first open the housing with the provided wrench, and there’s no filter change indicator to remind you to swap out the cartridge.

The Waterdrop website has conflicting information regarding the rated filter life, reporting it to be 8,000 gal or 12 months (whichever comes first) versus 1,100 gal elsewhere.
Assuming 500 gallons of yearly water consumption for the average household, we predict the frequency of your filter changes will be dictated by filter age rather than water consumption. Therefore, you would need to replace the filter once annually.
However, given the system has only 2 NSF/ANSI-certified contaminants and no additional third-party testing, replacing the filter more frequently may be a safer bet. A ~6-month life may be more realistic, based on similar elements that come with more extensive NSF/ANSI certifications or third-party testing for contaminant reduction. Therefore, a more conservative approach would be to replace the cartridge twice yearly.

Based on value for money, the Waterdrop CTF-01 achieved a cost score of 4.66 out of 5.00, indicating it is priced below average for what it offers compared to competing systems (a score of 4.00 represents average value). Notably, its upfront price is well above average, whereas its annual filter replacement costs are well below average compared to the other countertop water filters we tested.

As of Jul 13, 2026, the Waterdrop CTF-01 is priced at $79.99, which is well above the $60 average we estimate for this type of water filter.
2. Long-Term Expenses for Filter Replacements
Based on 500 gallons consumption and 1,100 to 8,000-gal or 12-month filter life for the filter cartridge, we estimate $40 in annual filter replacement costs, which is well below the $120.11 average across all the tested countertop water filters.
However, given its limited NSF/ANSI-certified contaminant reduction claims and the lack of third-party testing, twice yearly filter changes may be more judicious. This would bring ongoing filter replacement costs to a well-below-average $80 yearly. A filter subscription would save you an additional 5%.

The system is BPA-free and made of 304 stainless steel. It feels sturdy and well-built, and the faucet fits securely in the base.

2. Appearance
It has a simple, modern, matte finish that is resistant to smudges.
3. Frequent Customer Complaints
We read about issues with the housing being impossible to open (preventing filter replacement), as well as lackluster filtration.
We did not struggle with opening the housing for filter changes. We did note lackluster filtration in our lab testing, with somewhat underwhelming contaminant removal and potential leaching of a few concerning substances.
Bottom Line: User-Friendly and Affordable Long-Term – But with Potential Leaching (/5.00)
Filtration weighted at 60%, and usability and cost at 20% each, the Waterdrop CTF-01 scored a final rating of 2.88 out of 5.00.
Filtration performance was very poor overall, mostly due to its poor lab results. The system fully removed 7 out of 13 contaminants in our lab test and achieved little to no reduction for the remainder. Most concerningly, it showed potential methylene chloride and chloromethane leaching, though both remained below their strictest health guidelines. And while it produced filtered water that tasted and smelled perfectly clean, it has only 2 NSF/ANSI-certified contaminants (chlorine and taste/odor), with no additional third-party testing.
Usability is solid: it’s very simple to set up and prime. We easily installed the system onto our faucet, and it comes with 4 adapters to ensure the right fit. However, it is only compatible with standard kitchen faucets – you may be out of luck if you have a pull-down or sprayer-style, for example.
Filtration and dispensing occur simultaneously, and the speed is very fast and splash-free at ~4.25 seconds per cup (suitable for most households). However, it takes a moment to ramp up to full flow; the ramp down after dispensing is rather lengthy as well, which may lead you to overfill a glass if you aren’t prepared.
We didn’t notice any leaking, though our unit dripped a bit after the tap was turned off and when moving it around on our counter. The outlet valve makes switching between filtered and unfiltered water very easy.
Filter changes are simple, though you need to use the included filter wrench. There’s no filter change indicator light, so you’ll have to keep track of filter changes some other way.
Its BPA-free, 304 grade SS construction feels sturdy, and the modern, matte finish is smudge-resistant. Rubber grips on the bottom prevent the system from sliding around, and its compact size saves space on your counter. We still struggled to find a convenient spot for the unit, however, as the tubes tend to get in the way of normal sink usage.
While its upfront price is well above average, ongoing filter replacement costs are well below average.
Though user-friendly and affordable long-term, due to its very poor filtration performance – including potential leaching – we’d pass on the Waterdrop CTF-01.
